Statement of Inclusion & Accessibility

Digital Frontiers is a conference and community that explores creativity and collaboration across disciplinary boundaries in the arena of public humanities and cultural memory. Digital Frontiers celebrates inclusion and encourages participation from underrepresented groups and is strongly committed to diversity, equity, and the free expression of ideas for all participants — members and attendees, speakers, exhibitors, staff, and volunteers. This statement serves as the Code of Conduct for the Digital Frontiers community.

Digital Frontiers is committed to providing a harassment-free environment for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, national origin, language proficiency, military service, professional status, religion, marital status, genetic predisposition or carrier status, or other group status.

Harassment is understood as any threatening behavior that produces an unsafe environment for the persons or groups listed above, including but not limited to: offensive verbal comments or non-verbal expressions; sexual or violent content or images in public spaces without an appropriate content warning; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; unwanted or non-consensual photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. (See: Code of Conduct Violations Process)

Open, critically engaged discourse is expected to flourish at the Digital Frontiers Conference. Participants are encouraged to respect the differences among attendees and to be mindful of the diverse nature of our community in preparing presentations and engaging in conversation.

Social Media

Digital Frontiers encourages the use of social media to promote ideas discussed during conference sessions. The community rejects cyber-bullying and digital harassment in any form. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Persistent violations will be addressed to the fullest extent of applicable institutional and legal processes. Violations that require immediate action due to safety concerns for the complainant or others in the conference community will be immediately referred to institutional or legal authorities, including but not limited to campus or local police, as well as social media platform code enforcement entities.

To further assist our attendees, presenters, and others, the following resources are standard at our conferences:

  • mandatory microphone use by all presenters,
  • access ramps to presenter stage,
  • ADA approved building access,
  • service and therapy dog admittance,
  • and ADA compliant presentations.

We can also provide the following accommodations when requested at least 15 business days in advance of the start date of the conference:

  • ALS interpreters,
  • video conferencing for presenters and guests,
  • and closed captioning as needed.

If these accommodations do not meet your needs, we would welcome working with you in advance to provide accommodations and/or inclusionary technology that fit your personal needs.  Our team aims to make the Digital Frontiers conference a positive and stress-free experience as much as possible for all guests.
